This is one of 220 books in the fiction collection at the elementary library that I weeded today. That means, it's been saved twice before. It sounds like a clever enough plot ("Planning to give his mother a perfume made from her favorite smells, Sam Krupnik collects his father's pipe, chicken soup, and a soiled tissue from the baby and stashes everything in his toybox") and Lois Lowry is a great author, but look at those 1986-ish glasses on the cover! Without a rework, that isn't getting checked out.
