This is one of 220 books in the fiction collection at the elementary library that I weeded today. That means, it's been saved twice before. It sounds like a clever enough plot ("Planning to give his mother a perfume made from her favorite smells, Sam Krupnik collects his father's pipe, chicken soup, and a soiled tissue from the baby and stashes everything in his toybox") and Lois Lowry is a great author, but look at those 1986-ish glasses on the cover! Without a rework, that isn't getting checked out.

My daughter, Abby, showed in her first county fair and got 3rd place with Eli, a Market Lamb 3rd class and 1st place with Scout, a Market Lamb 4th class!

This is the third summer I've worked in the heat at MNW High, but being a person who likes the heat, it doesn't usually bother me. This summer, though, Donna and Libby are helping here so we we're glad to be kicked out of the library today because there was a work crew that needed to install the "cooler" on the roof above the library. I hear it won't be ready until school starts though . . .

I finished with the nonfiction section - done weeding (190 books) and sorting into bookstore model categories. That means I'm done completely with weeding and sorting at the high school! It's taken just over a week - with two helpers, Donna and Libby, which isn't too bad. I'm really excited to get it all done, and I love that we added a category of "Literary Nonfiction" which is going to be shelved near the fiction. Common Core and all that . . .

The bookstore model project is going great. So well, in fact, that we're doing it for nonfiction too! I anticipate being completely done at the high school - weeding, sorting, labeling, signage, cataloging - by the end of next week.

I had an assistant today, and Libby did the weeding at the high school library. I'm happy to report that the books I'm weeding has improved over time, with fewer and less-crappy books (230 books and videos), though there are still some doozies in there. The collection has improved greatly since I came two years ago.

TAG (Talented and Gifted) is being added to my job description, which means organizing materials. I'm glad I get a classroom, though!
